About Dr. ROBERTS
When I was in medical school, I was drawn to the great variety and flexibility of Adult Primary Care. I continue to love my specialty today because of the human connections I can foster with my patients.
In my nearly 20 years of practice as a primary care physician, I’ve found that healing is really all about building relationships. People are often very scared when they come to me, and because they trust me to listen to their concerns, we can have honest conversations about what’s going on and how to treat it. I love educating people about taking care of themselves and helping them achieve overall wellness.
I opened Hejira Healthcare because I wanted to create a doctor’s office that embodied everything I have learned about helping patients feel relaxed and comfortable. The office walls are painted in happy colors and decorated with wonderful art, and we keep great, serene music playing in the background. We provide hot tea and soft, cozy bathrobes for visits. Medical appointments are a form of selfcare, after all — they shouldn’t have to be unpleasant experiences for patients.
My staff and I make a point of treating people with kindness and respect, including making sure appointments are on time and helping to fully understand insurance issues. We have a secure electronic patient portal that helps us communicate and stay on top of things like appointments, prescriptions, lab results, and referrals. I see this technology as just another way to facilitate a good human connection with my patients.
I practice a different model of medicine based on building a good relationship with my patients so that we can tackle their health issues as a team.
Dr. Roberts is an avid world traveler with a “no repeat” rule for destinations — except for Paris, which she never tires of visiting. Her travels inspire her to read, cook, and learn new things. Back home, she loves taking advantage of all the great art, music, restaurants, and culture available right in Chicago.

Education and Experience
After graduating from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1992, Dr. Roberts began a residency in general surgery at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Realizing that she wanted more variety, flexibility, and human connection than surgical practice would provide, she shifted to a Family Medicine residency at the University of Illinois, which she completed in 1997. Dr. Roberts gained nearly a decade of experience serving as the medical director and physician at a Community Health Clinic in Chicago before opening her own practice, Hejira Healthcare, in 1996.
